Bob Gallagher has been President of Western Pennsylvania Youth Basketball Club, Inc. for the past fifteen years, a non-profit organization, that was formed in 1990. Their mission is to assist girls in gaining more recognition and possibly obtain athletic scholarships, to learn the lessons of life through their participation in this great sport as well as build self-esteem by recognizing their accomplishments on the court and in the classroom. The organization has hosted Eat'n Park Pennsylvania Girls High School Roundball Classic, The Tri-State Girls Basketball Invitational Showcase, The Coca Cola Western Pennsylvania Girls Basketball Hall of Fame Banquet, and a scholarship program as well as provide numerous colleges with information about the girls accomplishments in Western Pennsylvania. The exposure to colleges creates many opportunities to those girls who could not attend college by any means other than an athletic scholarship. There have been approximately 700 girls who have participated in the Eat'n Park Pennsylvania Girls High School Roundball Classic, over 2000 girls have participated in the Tri-State Girls Basketball Invitational Showcases, over 1500 girls have received awards as a result of the banquets that have been hosted, and several hundred have received scholarships as a result of programs offered. Scholarships are awarded for academic performance as well as athletic performance. The interest in girls basketball has grown considerably over the last fifteen years. National and local newspapers have been devoting more coverage to the sport. We have also seen an increase in media coverage for High School Girls Basketball games. Since 1995, the Eat'n Park Pennsylvania Girls High School Roundball Classic has been televised live and on tape delay to over a million homes.
